Data Velocity Defined
Data velocity refers to the speed in which data is generated, distributed and collected.
The velocity rate is based on factors such as the amount of sensors present on IoT – enabled devices and the amount of individuals using the internet.
High data velocity is generated with such pace that it requires specific processing techniques. The higher the velocity rate, the faster the data can be acquired and processed, the more valuable the data collected will be and the longer it will retain its value. However, the systems used to analyse the data must also be up to the task. The faster a user can process information into their data and analytics platform, the more flexibility they get to find answers through queries, reports and dashboards.
Data that is high velocity, high volume and high variety must be processed with advanced tools, such as analytics and algorithms to reveal in-depth information for decisions.
