Batch Processing Defined

Batch processing is the process in which a computer completes transactions in a group or batch. These transactions are usually high volume and repetitive.  Simply, it is a term used  for frequently used programs that are executed with minimum human interaction. It  can also known as Workload Automation (WLA) and Job Scheduling.

Batch processing jobs can be run simultaneously, on regularly scheduled times or on an as-needed basis. However, it is most suited to end-of-cycle processing.

This type of processing is advantageous to businesses as;

  • Cost effective
  • Quick and efficient
  • Reduces errors
  • Can work outside of regular business hours
