Cascading Style Sheets Defined

Cascading Style Sheets also known as CSS, is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a document written in a markup language.  Simply, it describes how HTML elements are to be displayed on screen, paper, or in other media. These specifications could include:

• Page layouts
• Colors
• Fonts 

CSS is written in simple, plain text through a text editor or word processor on a computer. There are three main ways to add that CSS code to your HTML pages including:

• External
• Internal
• Inline

CSS is independent of HTML and can be used with any XML-based markup language.
